The 26 year-old centre back is reported to be joining the Clarets if you believe today’s Daily Mail.Curiously though there is no mention of any transfer fee or indeed whether this is a permanant or loan signing
Jonathan Jay Fortune was born in 1980 in Islington, London. He came through the Charlton youth system and has spent his entire professional football career to date at the club apart from two loan spells at Mansfield Town between 1999-2001. Fortune made his Charlton debut during the 2001-02 season and has been a regular figure in the Charlton first team since. Fortune’s boyhood club is actually the Hammers. All the more sweeter therefore when the converted striker scored for Charlton in a 2-0 win against the Hammers in a match in August 2002 ,with his family of West Ham fans in the crowd!
By the way his cousin is the UK rapper Kano. Who?
If this rumour is true, I suppose it is bound to raise the question as to why we need another centre back with Duff, McGreal, Sinclair, Thomas and Foster already on the scene. Most Clarets would be crying out for a right back unless Steve Cotterill is also looking at options in that position in this transfer window.
This move however if true could be viewed also as a signing for the future with Sinclair and McGreal not getting any younger.Who knows also what players we will retain in the Jan window? Duff was linked with Manchester City in one rumour but most fans would find it hard to believe that was true. Steve Cotterill has been concerned about the back four recently, although the performance improved in the last match against the Saints. He is always also stating that he has been concerned about the options in the back four and lack of stability due to numerous injuries and suspensions in that area. Maybe this would give him more options and security.
