On Friday whilst I was distracted with the retrospective ban by the FA for Andre Gray, Burnley had also announced the signing of three new contracts by players.

Dean Marney, Stephen Ward and Kevin Long had all penned new 12 month extensions to their existing deals ahead of the weekend.

All three were set to be out of contract next summer, and Marney and Long are two of our longest serving players in the first team squad having arrived at Turf Moor back in 2010.

Midfielder Marney made his milestone 200th club appearance last May as we landed the Championship title and promotion at the first time of asking – the game was Charlton.

Former Republic of Ireland Under 21 international defender Lon, made his Premier League debut in our last top flight campaign, and has 27 first team appearances to his name.

Republic of Ireland international full back Ward joined us back in 2014, and he now has 42 appearances to hisname and more than played his part in last season’s success – the 23 game unbeaten run – and he became the first player to represent Burnley at the European Championship finals.

All three are now contracted up until the summer of 2018.
