Burnley’s Championship season continued with a win against QPR at Turf Moor on Monday.

An instant return to the Premier League was confirmed by Burnley after a one-nil win over QPR. Victory means it’ll be the Clarets and one from two of Middlesbrough and Brighton going up automatically, with the title to be decided on the final day.

The deadlock was broken just past the hour when Sam Vokes headed in a Dave Jones freekick to put Burnley ahead, which proved to be the winner.

A 19th cleansheet in his 45-matches in the Championship this season from Tom Heaton was enough to confirm the win, he was beaten by Alejandro Faurlin from distance though but his effort hit the post with a 22-match unbeaten run continuing with this win to ensure a topflight return.

Victory over already relegated Charlton will confirm us as Champions, which will be the next aim obviously as we end the season!

Here’s a round up of the Championship action from the other games played at the weekend….

These were the other results.

Friday 29th April 2016
Birmingham 2-2 Middlesbrough

Saturday 30th April 2016
Bolton 1-0 Hull
Brentford 3-0 Fulham
Bristol City 4-0 Huddersfield
Ipswich 3-2 MK Dons
Leeds 1-2 Charlton
Nottm Forest 1-1 Wolves
Reading 1-2 Preston
Rotherham 0-1 Blackburn
Sheff Wed 3-0 Cardiff

Monday 2nd May 2016
Brighton 1-1 Derby
Burnley 1-0 QPR

With the relegation matters already decided results at the bottom end of the table made little difference to things really.

The final play-off place was 100% confirmed though!

Sheffield Wednesday (three-nil) hosting Cardiff knowing simply avoiding defeat would be enough to confirm they would take that final spot, the Owls made absolutely sure by winning with it now known Hull, Derby and Wednesday will fill three of the four spots.

The final space will be taken by one of two from Middlesbrough or Brighton, with Burnley now confirmed as going up automatically!

All three continue to battle for the title, let alone automatic promotion but Burnley are strong favourites to win the league with Middlesbrough (nil-nil) now knowing the draw at Birmingham on Friday (at that point) left them as the outsiders…

Both Brighton and Burnley had to wait until Bank Holiday Monday to play.

When they did Brighton (one-one) were held by Derby at the Amex Stadium meaning the chance to leave promotion in their own hands was missed when they finish against Middlesbrough.

The Burnley (one-nil) win over QPR ensure the Clarets confirmed a return to the Premier League after a year away, now they’ll look to make sure it’s also the title at the weekend!
