Eddie Howe has at long last got his man after signing Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Sam Vokes yesterday. The Welsh international made an impression during his two-month loan spell at Turf Moor last season and has continually been linked with a permanent move to the club. The chances of signing him hotted up recently when Wolves agreed to let him go.

Burnley have paid an undisclosed fee thought to be in the region of £500,000 to sign the 22-year-old Welsh international on a three-year deal. It is thought a number of Championship clubs were after his services including Brighton where he also spent a loan spell last season and Millwall. News circulated yesterday that a deal had been agreed and that he had linked up with the club on their South West tour for a medical. He played last night in the 3-1 victory against Bath City
