Clarets striker Sam Vokes has today committed his future to the club after signing a two-year contract extension until the summer of 2017. His original three-year deal was due to expire in 2015

Vokes prolific partnership with Danny Ings this season has been a joy to watch following the departure of Charlie Austin the summer to QPR. The two of them have now notched up a total of 31 goals so far this season with Vokes contributing 11 of those goals just one short of his personal season best. The 24 year old Welsh international’s career best of 12 goals in a season was achieved in the 2007/08 season whilst on Bournemouth’s books.

Sean Dyche talking about the contract extension said:

“Sam is enjoying his football and developing as a player.

“We have all seen, so far, great signs of how his all-round game is improving and we are delighted he has decided to stay with us.

“I spoke to Sam in the summer and told him we wanted him to be part of what we are looking to do here at Burnley and he has responded to that challenge.

“He is putting in consistent performances and scoring goals and becoming the player we think he can be, so we are delighted that he is going to continue that process with us as we move the club forward.”
