Sunderland defender Russell Anderson is set to sign for the Clarets on loan confirming the earlier announcement from Owen Coyle that he was looking to loan a Premier League player.

It is understood he will sign a season-long loan deal.

Roy Keane confirmed the situation on the Official Sunderland website

“We expect Russell to finalise a deal with Burnley today.

“I spoke with him and one or two other players last week and he agreed he needs to play games.

“He`s been good. He said if an opportunity came up, he would take it. He went on loan to Plymouth last season. It will be
good for him to go and get some games”

Anderson joined his local club, Aberdeen in 1996, becoming their captain before signing for Sunderland in June 2007 for £1 million.

The central defender joined Plymouth on a loan until the end of last season in February 2008 .Born and bred in Aberdeen, the 29 year old is a Scottish International with 11 caps to his name so far.

Earlier speculation suggested Coyle was interested in signing the player on a permanent loan, so maybe there will be such an opportunity come the close season of 2009.
