Charlie Austin underwent surgery today to remove his appendix and sadly for our top scoring striker he now appears to have been robbed of his chance of reaching the 30 goal target for the season. He currently has 28 goals and there were high hopes he could reach the 30 target last achieved by a Burnley player in the 1965-66 season when Willie Irvine bagged the honours!

However although the operation has gone well the club statement on the official site indicates he is likely to be ruled out for the remaining four games of the Championship season including of course the match tonight against Leeds at Elland Road. Sean Dyche will make a further statement following tonight’s game.

Austin complained of feeling unwell during training on Monday and he was then diagnosed with appendicitis. He had his appendix removed this Tuesday morning.
