Burnley Football Club have today confirmed the signing of striker Ashley Barnes from Brighton and Hove Albion on a three-and-a-half year deal for an undisclosed fee. It is thought the transfer fee could be in the region of £750,000 based on earlier media reports.
He was widely expected to sign following news yesterday that he was at the club to complete a medical and finalise personal terms. Burnley have therefore beaten off the challenge from Leeds United who were also showing late interest in the 24-year-old with fears that they could scupper the deal at Turf Moor.
The striker becomes Sean Dyche`s first signing of the January transfer window. Subject to Football League acceptance since he was only signed this morning (Friday), Barnes will go straight into the Clarets squad for Saturday`s Championship game at Yeovil.
He will wear squad number 30..
