A statement on the club’s website reads:

‘Burnley Football Club can confirm that club officials are not in talks with Algerian midfielder Yazid Mansouri.Burnley Football Club have not entered into any negotiations.’

According to Sky Sports earlier today the Clarets were said to be close to signing the 31 year old defensive midfielder and Algerian international and captain.

Mansouri speaking to Sky Sports even confirmed that initial talks with Burnley had been held and said:

“I have had discussions with Burnley’s directors and all that remains is for the two clubs to agree a deal”

Mansouri currently plays for French Ligue 1 side FC Lorient and it was reported that a £1 million deal was close to being accepted.

Clarets fans may recall Mansouri from the time he played for Coventry whilst on loan from Le Havre. He came on a season long loan at the start of the 2003-4 season and made 14 appearances for the Sky Blues. In the summer of 2004, Mansouri signed for Ligue 2 side LB Châteauroux eventually becoming captain of the side before joining FC Lorient at the start of the 2006-7 season after signing a two-year contract. Mansouri has 58 caps for Algeria and is currently the captain of the national side. He will be flying out to South Africa in the summer for the 2010 World Cup where Algeria of course are in England`s Group.

Amazing how these rumours develop not to mention what people are quoted as saying

Vital Burnley don’t appear to have a photo of some bullshit to put up so you will have to accept a photograph of a load of rubbish!
