Clarke Carlisle looks set to join Preston on a season-long loan deal.

Eddie Howe confirmed the situation today and said on the Club’s official website:

‘The club have agreed a deal and now it is up to Clarke to agree things with Preston’

Carlisle, 31 struggled to get into the first-team towards the end of last season with a number of Clarets fans becoming highly critical about his performances.

He still has one year left on his contract but his days at Burnley look to be numbered now should he spend the whole season away from Turf Moor at League 1 Preston.

Howe continued by saying:

‘He has been a fantastic servant for the club and I can’t speak highly enough about him as a player and a person.

‘His attitude and commitment to the cause can never be questioned and if goes, he goes with our best wishes’

The defender and last season’s vice-captain was noticeably absent from today’s line up in the pre-season friendly at Altrincham fuelling earlier speculation this week that he was about to jump ship and sign for that lot down the M65. It had been thought he might move there on a permanent deal rather than a season-long loan but the end result is still the same. Carlisle is now understood to be in talks with Phil Brown trying to finalise personal terms
