Clarets fans will be delighted to hear that Chris Eagles will be staying at Turf Moor after agreeing a new contract that will keep him at the club until June 2012. Speculation had been fuelled this week that Celtic could succeed where Rangers had failed offering Eagles a better salary than Rangers. Eagles turned down Rangers in the summer after the two clubs had agreed a fee of £2 million and there had been some concern that the club could lose out him altogether financially with his contract running out next summer when he could have left on a Bosman.

Eagles had made it plain that he wanted to play Premier League football and looked set to leave but apart from the bid by SPL club, Rangers and despite links to numerous Premier League clubs, there has been no movement and Eagles seems to have had a change of heart.

Brian Laws taking about the new contract said:

“He`s going to stay with us and that`s great news for the fans and the football club because, quite clearly, he`s got the talent,

“It`s really pleasing that he`s committed himself and it quashes any kind of rumours that are going round about Celtic or Rangers.

“He wants to stay at Burnley and that`s good enough for us.”
