Left back, Stephen Ward only signed for the Clarets earlier this month and has yet to make his debut following his transfer from Wolves but this week he received some good news on the International front. He has been shortlisted in Martin O’Neil`s provisional squad for the Republic of Ireland`s games next month against Oman and Georgia. Ward who made his international debut in May 2011 will now be hoping to add to his 24 caps achieved so far.

He is one of a 36 man provisional squad which will be whittled down by the 31st August before the final cut of players meet up for the two games. The match against Oman is a friendly and will be played on Wednesday 3rd September at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Four days later they will be playing their opening game in the Euro 2016 qualifiers in Tblisi against Georgia.

Should Ward feature in any of those games, he will become only the second Republic of Ireland player to play for his country whilst on Burnley`s books! So who do you reckon the other one is? Well you don`t have to go back as far as you might think. It is actually the since departed Keith Treacy who in August 2011 made a substitute appearance against Croatia in a Dublin friendly.
