Cobblers to Carlisle as Window Closes Quietly

Clarets fans can now relax, the January transfer window closed at 11pm last night with none of our current squad signing any permanent deals with other clubs. The biggest relief was to see Jay Rodriguez in the starting eleven against Forest last night and he then celebrated staying at the club in style by bagging a brace! Fears he could be off to a Premier League club were unfounded although summer may be another matter.

There were two players though who signed for other clubs on loan. Vital Burnley had already reported that striker Alex MacDonald had joined Plymouth on loan until the 6th March and there was perhaps surprising news also that Clarke Carlisle would be leaving Preston on loan to join League 2 Northampton on loan until the end of the season.

Carlisle had his loan contract at Preston terminated by mutual consent and then almost immediately agreed to join the Cobblers.

Preston boss Graham Westley said:

“Clarke has been a terrific professional over the last couple of weeks but was finding it difficult to merge his wider responsibilities with the new regime that I have introduced at the club.

“He gave me all he could whilst I settled in, never missing a moment until I could replace him.

“The move to Northampton allows us both to move on in a positive way which is how we agreed to work together.”

He will now be staying at Sixfields until the summer. It is thought unlikely he will remain on Burnley`s books after the loan spell with the 32 year olds contract at Turf Moor expiring in the summer.

So what do you think about our total business in the January window? Have we done enough or do you think we should have brought in more cover for our promotion push? Let us know below this article.
