Clarets gaffer Owen Coyle has a contract at Turf Moor until the summer of 2011 but is in talks already to extend his contract in order to show commitment to the Clarets and scotch any rumours about a possible move away from the club to Premier League suitors.

Bolton Wanderers only last week had to make an official statement following an article in the News of the World that Owen Coyle was being targeted as a replacement for Gary Megson in the summer. The rumours were strongly denied by Bolton

On the Official Site today Owen emphasized again his commitment to the Clarets confirming he is in talks to lengthen his contract:

‘There was all sorts of speculation last week, but I have got no intention of going anywhere, said the gaffer

‘I love it at this football club and we are not anywhere near where I want to be in terms of taking the club on. I didn’t bring players into this football club to be upping and leaving at the first opportunity
That was never going to be the case because we want to continue what we are doing and look to build. We are all in this together and I am here for as long as the club want me – they know that.So much so that the Chairman, Brendan Flood and I have had a chat about making it (the contract) a bit longer’

That will be pleasing news to Clarets fans who have warmed to their new manager since he joned the club following Steve Cotterill’s departure by mutual consent in November 2007.

This season with the cup runs and the taking of the various Premier League scalps as certainly been the best in some time. It would be a shame if the season now goes tits-up when we still have a chance of reaching the play-offs despite a tired, off form, jaded looking small squad.

Come on Burnley FC, go the final mile, let Owen bring in one or two new loans somehow and give him that well-earned contract extension.
