According to reports in some of today’s Sunday papers former Clarets gaffer, Steve Cotterill is favourite to take over the manager’s job at Tranmere Rovers following the departure this week of John Barnes.

Barnes left Prenton Park this Friday after just four months and 14 games in charge. Tranmere have won just two of their eleven League games this season. The club are 22nd in League One and were knocked out of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy last Tuesday

Cotterill, 45, has been out of football management since he left Turf Moor by mutual consent in November 2007 although he has been linked numerous times with managerial opportunities. It is understood Rovers’ chairman Peter Johnson sees Cotterill as the coach who can guide Tranmere to League One safety.
