There is an interesting article in today’s Observer concerning Owen Coyle’s attempts to steal one of our targets and bring Arsenal young gun, Jack Wilshere to the Reebok.
The 18 year old attacking midfielder has been a loan target for a number of Premier League clubs including Burnley and West Ham but of course as soon as Coyle jumped ship to Bolton, the Trotters were also then linked.
However it looks like relationships have been soured between Owen Coyle and Arsene Wenger after Bolton suffered two back to back defeats at the hands of the Gunners. They lost 2-0 to Arsenal at home last weekend and then in midweek suffered a 4-2 loss despite being 2-0 up at one stage.
There was ill feeling though after the Emirates game with Coyle making an astonishing attack later retracted concerning a challenge by William Gallas on Mark Davies. With the score at 2-1 to Arsenal and with Davies prostrate on the ground, play continued with no whistle for a foul with Fabregas then getting an equaliser.
Coyle said in the post-match interview:
‘It was closer to an assault than a tackle.There was no doubt it was a free-kick. It was a terrible foul and normally would have resulted in a red card.
‘The referee is an honest man who will realise he has made a horrendous mistake.
‘Arsenal carried on and scored and it puts fair play out of the window. It leaves a bad taste in the mouth.’
A few days later though when he had reflected on his comments he felt it necessary to tone down his remarks and was now quoted as saying:
‘Having looked at it I don’t think William Gallas purposely went to hurt Mark Davies.I think it was badly timed, simple as that but we have to move on.’
This though clearly does not appear to have appeased Wenger with Bolton’s loan move attempt for Wilshere appearing to have gone quiet.
Arsene Wenger with a hint of mischief is quoted in the Observer saying about the potential Wilshere move:
‘Bolton was interested until Wednesday night. I haven’t heard from them since’
The Observer goes on to say that Arsenal will definitely loan out Wilshere for the rest of the season and quotes Wenger further saying:
‘I want him to go the right club.But for me what is important is that he plays’
It would be hard to now imagine that Wenger considers Bolton to be the right club which could mean we are still in with a chance of bringing the hot prospect to Turf Moor after all!
