David Nugent is coming to Burnley from Portsmouth on a six months loan deal with an option to buy.

This was a frantic last minute deal before the transfer window closed at 5pm today and all parties are hoping the paperwork via the fax has all gone through in time.

The 24 year old striker, has one England cap and started his career with Bury before moving to local rivals, Preston North End in January 2005 for a fee of £100,000. The Clarets at the time under Steve Cotterill were also hoping to sign the striker so things have now come full circle.

In July 2007, Preston accepted a £6 million bid for the player with Sunderland also believed to have put in a similar bid.

Nugent though has made just 34 appearances for Pompey scoring only 3 goals and had been expected earlier in this summer transfer window to be joining Middlesbrough on loan.It would also appear Hull City were interested in the player and that today we beat the Tigers to his signature.
