Eddie and the Loan Beast?

Eddie Howe knows it is going to be difficult this season to keep both our regular goalkeepers happy. Both Lee Grant and Brian Jenson have thrown their toys out of the pram in recent times after being unable to secure a regular first team place.

Howe agonised over his choice of keeper for the opening game this season at home to Watford on Saturday and in the end plumped for Lee Grant which perhaps surprised a few Clarets fans.

“It was a really tough call – probably the hardest decision I had to make,” the gaffer had to admit

“Both goalkeepers have pushed each other and while they`ve both been excellent Beast (Jensen), through no fault of his own, has found himself out of the team.

“I had to pick one.

“Granty hasn`t conceded a goal in pre-season and I said I`d pick the best goalkeeper.

“It was an incredibly difficult decision.”

Brian Jensen is not likely to be a happy bunny particularly if he continues to be sidelined and it would appear Eddie Howe might be prepared to loan him out now that we also have a third-string keeper. Jon Stewart signed a one year deal with the club last week after a pre-season trial when he played in three of the friendly games during the summer. The 22 year old was a free agent after being sacked by Bournemouth in April

Howe continued:

“Whoever I left out was going to be disappointed and probably say that they wanted to go out on loan to play because they`re both experienced goalkeepers and they`re both good enough to play in the Championship.

“So keeping them both happy is going to be difficult if not impossible, so we`ll have to look at what develops over the coming weeks.

“There`s a possibility of a loan spell. I rate them both very highly.

“Unfortunately there`s only one position up for grabs.”

It seems the logical thing to do to me. At least this way both main keepers will be playing regularly and of course we can always recall Jensen should we need to.
