Heaton Talks Mental Strength

England goalkeeper (I do like writing that) and skipper Tom Heaton has praised the mental strength within the side following the scoreless draw with Queens Park Rangers at the weekend.

With a run of one defeat in eleven and unbeaten away in the last eight, Heaton was obviously pleased to see the side pick up another point in what was a tricky match at Loftus Road given the circumstances of their new gaffer arriving and the boost that gives players, and he was certainly happy with another clean sheet but he did admit slight disappointment that we couldn’t take the victory and all three points on the day.

Speaking to the Official Site in his own post game interview, Heaton explained that he felt we had done enough second half to have maybe warranted the win, but a lack of composure had cost us in their final third unfortunately.

‘I think in the second-half we got in some good areas but didn`t quite have the composure. It was a tough game and they made it very difficult. I thought we defended really well, put bodies on the line, and came away with a good clean sheet and a point. We felt we dominated second-half but teams are always going to get opportunities and they came in the last couple of minutes. That`s where you have to be strong, mentally strong and we did that with Keane`s header and Scott`s clearance off the line.’

With Middlesbrough next up on Tuesday evening, Heaton said the aim was obviously to return to winning ways and that will be the aim at the Riverside Stadium.

‘We`re moving forward and looking for wins. In the last twenty or thirty minutes we were running all over them a little bit and it`s just making that count. We bemoaned not keeping the back door shut at the other end last week but we`ve done that really well today and that gives you a great foundation to win games moving forward.’
