We may not have made many summer signings so far, in fact only one with Ben Mee arriving on a season-long loan but on the other side of the coin we have not lost any key players either unless some Clarets fans think Iwelumo, Grezza, Carlisle, Thommo and Kev McDonald were crucial to our plans for 2011-12.There was though the disappointment of not signing Jack Cork on a permanent deal and losing him to Southampton.

Two of our current key players however continue to be in the news with reports that other clubs could be interested in taking them away from Turf Moor.

We have all read about Pompey’s interest in Martin Paterson with reports that the Hampshire club may well have made bids anywhere betweeen £1.5 million and £3.5 million.

Chris Eagles too continues to be linked with Premier League clubs, the latest being newly promoted QPR.Chris has one year of his contract still to go, so whether Burnley could be tempted to sell him now while they can and make some money on him remains to be seen.

The club though do seem to be rubbishing the speculation on both players and Eddie Howe speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph said:

“There`s always people circling, but there is no new news regarding any of our players.

“I`ve said all along I want to keep the squad together, keep our best players, and hopefully we can do that and bring in some new ones the other way.”

Let’s hope this is the case and we do not lose any more players with the new season just a few weeks away and with the squad already down by five on balance compared to last season if you count the failure to sign Jack Cork.

Howe is also on record as saying that he still wants to add 2-3 players to his squad before the new season kicks-off and is working hard with Operational Director, Brendan Flood to try and achieve that. Lets hope we win out on both fronts ie no more out and three more in!
