Dean Marney has today signed a new two-year deal for Burnley and will be at the club at least until the Summer of 2015.
The 29-year-old midfielder joined Burnley from Hull City in the summer of 2010 and recently made his 100th league start for the Clarets. His contract however expired this summer and earlier rumours suggested he wanted away to live closer to his family.
Marney was one of number of first team players out of contract in the summer and he now joins Ross Wallace to become the second player so far to agree a new deal
Sean Dyche clearly sees Marney as a key player in his future plans. Talking about the new deal the Burnley gaffer said:
“We are absolutely delighted that Dean has signed an extended deal and it is another piece in the planning and preparation going forwards.
“People will be aware we are having to be prudent with our finances, but we also want to remain competitive and keep progressing the club.
“In his time at Turf Moor over the past couple of seasons, Dean has quite clearly shown that he wants to be competitive with us.
“His commitment is another sign that players want to be at Burnley Football Club and take us on this journey.
“We want to build something here and it was always in my thoughts to get Dean on a new deal.
“Equally, Dean has always intimated that he would like to sort something out and stay.
“The fact he was eager to do so speaks volumes.”
The remaining players out of contract this summer include goalkeepers Lee Grant and Brian Jensen, defender Michael Duff, midfielder Chris McCann and striker Martin Paterson and we await to hear news of their situation and whether they will be offered and accept new contracts.
