There were lots of rumours on Twitter during the summer transfer window that linked Burnley with a move for Stoke City striker, Kenwyne Jones. Doubts were cast though when it was reported that the player was not keen on dropping divisions and was likely to wait for a late EPL bid.
In the end the summer transfer window closed with Kenwyne Jones still at the Britannia Stadium but it is now clear he does not appear to be in Stoke manager Tony Pulis’s long term plans if an article in the Sun this week is to be believed.
It would appear the Staffordshire club are ready to offload six players after signing striker Michael Owen and one of the players named is Kenwyne Jones along with Michael Tonge, Diego Arismendi, Danny Higginbotham, Mama Sidibe and Wilson Palacios. Owen joined Stoke City on a 12-month pay-as-you-go deal last week after Manchester United ended his three-year association with the club in the summer.
The club now want to cut their wage bill and it would appear that they are looking to loan out the six players mentioned above.
It is no secret that Burnley are looking to loan a striker and with the loan market opening last Friday this latest rumour could suggest that Kenwyne Jones may still be on Eddie Howe’s radar if the original speculation about the gaffer’s interest was true.
The 27 year old, Trinidad and Tobago international signed for Stoke City on a four-year-deal from Sunderland for a club record fee of £8 million in August 2010. Jones began his professional career with Joe Public in his native Trinidad and Tobago in 2002 before soon moving to W Connection where he played for two years. His first English club was Southampton having signed for the Saints from W Connection for a nominal fee after a trial in July 2004. Loan spells at Sheffield Wednesday and future club, Stoke City followed before he signed for Sunderland in a £6 million deal in August 2007 with Stern John going in the opposite direction.
