Millwall appear to be facing a fight to keep hold of Nigeria international defender, Danny Shittu.

The 30 year old’s short-term contract expires next month but he could be leaving the Den on a free transfer when the January window opens.

It would appear he has a number of clubs interested in signing his services including Burnley. Championship rivals, Middlesbrough and Cardiff are also believed to be interested according to Sky Sports.

Greek side PAOK and an unnamed German club are also understood to be watching developments.

Bolton released Shittu from his contract in September 2010 and he then signed a three month contract with Millwall on the 20th October. He has impressed at the Den.

Shittu started his professional career with Charlton Athletic in 1999 but spent most of his time out on loan. He played on loan for Blackpool in 2001 before later that year joining QPR.

QPR acquired his services permanently for £350,000 in January 2002 and he spent over six years at Loftus Road. In August 2006 he was signed for £1.6 million by then Premiership newcomers Watford.

Shittu joined Premier League club Bolton Wanderers in August 2008 penning a three-year contract for £2m plus further add-ons after competition from Scottish Premier League club Rangers had failed.

Meanwhile Clarets defender, Leon Cort currently on loan at Deepdale could be considering a permanent move to Preston. Burnley though might not be able to get anywhere near the £1.5 million they paid Stoke City for his services in January 2010. Preston are struggling financially to make ends meet.

Cort was signed by Brian Laws and is currently under contract at Turf Moor until July 2013 after agreeing a three-and-a-half year deal>
