Clarets fans will not be too happy reading today’s Daily Mail.

The paper seems confident that a deal has already been agreed between Burnley and Bolton allowing both Chris Eagles and Tyrone Mears to play for Owen Coyle next season for the measly sum of £3 million!

They state:

‘Bolton will sign Chris Eagles and Tyrone Mears after manager Owen Coyle had a £3million joint offer accepted by his old club Burnley’

Both players are currently in their last year of their contracts so the worry is that the club might be tempted to cash in now rather than lose them on a Bosman next summer. We have to hope though the Mail rumour is a ridiculous bit of media gossip because quite frankly if this goes ahead there could be open riot on the terraces come the season opener on 6th August after the failure also to sign Jack Cork and indeed so far, the failure to sign anybody this summer on a permanent deal.We are now the only club in the Championship not to have signed a new player this summer on a permanent deal with the other clubs averaging about 4 new signings each.

£3 million for two key players and to Judas as well; that is bound to go down a storm with Clarets fans. There is no way anybody in their right mind could describe that as a good bit of business and if true it would simply smack of financial desperation. The Mail must be having a laugh, if not then it clearly shows our financial situation is shot to pieces with the club only having one ambition; to be League 1 champions at the end of 2012-13.

‘We don’t have to sell’ we were told, let’s hope they are about to prove it.
