Burnley of course continue to be linked with strikers in the media and the latest lined-up to replace Charlie Austin is Sheffield Wednesday’s Gary Madine! The 22 year old striker signed from Carlisle United in January 2011 for an undisclosed fee, believed to be £800,000 including add-ons after agreeing a four and a half year contract. During his time at Hillsborough he has netted 27 goals in 98 appearances (about 1-in-4) although currently appears to be out-of-favour. The Gateshead- born forward came through Carlisle`s youth system making his first team debut in 2007. Loan spells in 2009, first at Rochdale and then Coventry City followed before joining Chesterfield on loan in 2010.

Well that is the rumour but is there any truth in Burnley`s interest? Well not according to Sean Dyche who was quick to pour cold water on the speculation.

“The club gets linked with every forward who`s just about available, said the Burnley gaffer

“I haven`t spoken to Dave (Jones) about any player here.”
