It is perhaps ineveitable that the media would link new Burnley gaffer, Brian Laws with an interest in bringing players to Burnley from two of his former clubs, Sheffield Wednesday and Scunthorpe United.
Laws has just a couple of weeks left to strengthen the squad before the January transfer window closes and if the rumours are true he would have an head start going back to the clubs he has previously worked for or attempt to sign players that used to play for him.
In a lot of cases also he will be familiar with the players especially at Sheffield Wednesday and will know which ones might be unsettled and which ones the Owls board and new manager, Alan Irvine might be tempted to release in an effort to ease their financial worries.
Vital Burnley have already reported this week that Wednesday keeper, Lee Grant could be one of Laws targets but media speculation today and during last week suggests we might also be interested in 22 year old left back,Tommy Spurr and 20 year old defender,Mark Beevers.
Scunthorpe United might also be raided by Laws with news that he could be interested in 21 year old striker, Gary Hooper.Hooper though did not play under Laws and arrived at Glanford Park in July 2008 from Southend United
Another player we have been linked with is 23 year old striker,Billy Sharp. Laws will know about the player from his time at Scunthorpe and it is understood he tried several attempts to sign Sharp for Sheffield Wednesday but couldn’t afford him.. Sharp is currently in his second spell with Sheffield United but has been out on a season-long loan to Doncaster Rovers after joining them in the summer. He has been prolific since being loaned to Doncaster and has scored 10 goals for them in 17 league starts. It had been thought he would sign permanently for Rovers next summer but he would surely be tempted more to play in the Premier League now if the link is true.The Blades can recall Sharp if they have an acceptable bid for the forward who cost them £2m in July 2007.
