Burnley are tracking Scunthorpe goalkeeper Joe Murphy as a potential replacement for Brian Jensen according to the Daily Mail.

Jensen this week handed in a written transfer request after being unable to regain his place from current number one choice, Lee Grant.

Murphy,29 would be available for a nominal fee in January, as he only has six months left on his contract.

If the speculation is true though, the Clarets could face competition from Championship rivals, Doncaster and Coventry for his signature.

The Dublin-born Republic of Ireland international started his professional career with Tranmere Rovers in 1998. He had very brief spells at West Brom and Sunderland and in both cases was loaned out to Walsall for a time.

Sunderland released the keeper at the end of the 2005-6 season and he signed for Scunthorpe in May 2006.

And who was the Scunthorpe manager who signed him? None other than Brian Laws who spent ten years at the club first as a player and then gaffer. Laws left in November 2006 to take over the manager’s job at Sheffield Wednesday

Murphy has since made over 170 appearances for the Iron.
