Spurs 20 year old full-back, Adam Smith (pictured above on right) and 24 year old Celtic central defender, Darren O’Dea are just two players that have recently been linked with a move to Burnley.

In the case of O’Dea it was even reported in the national press over the weekend that the Clarets had already made a £400,000 offer for the Republic of Ireland international.

However the Lancashire Telegraph now claims ‘to understand’ that Burnley’s interest for both players could be wide of the mark.

It is not the first time the club have been linked with O’Dea. Owen Coyle was also reported to be interested in signing the defender during the January transfer window of our promotion season but instead opted to bring in Rhys Williams on loan from Middlesbrough.

However the LT have now poured cold water on the speculation this time round and indeed make the sweeping statement that ‘despite having an interest in a number of players, the Clarets have not yet made an official bid for any of their targets’ which is even more amazing since we now have just three days left before the squad report to Gawthorpe for pre-season training this Thursday!

Adam Smith ,who played for Howe whilst on loan at Bournemouth last season, has just been offered a new contract at Spurs. Despite this however a number of Championship clubs including Burnley, Ipswich and Reading are reported to be interested in signing the full-back.

Not so Burnley if Suzanne Geldard’s comments in her LT article are true. She writes:

‘I understand the Clarets have not made any attempt to sign the 20-year-old at this stage’

So here we are, pre-season training about to start and the summer friendlies scheduled for next month and we have not even made any bids for new players? Can that really be right?

What will our new squad look like when the new season gets underway with a home game against Watford on Saturday August 6th? Are Clarets fans expecting a large number of new faces to have been signed by then or do they think one or two will be sufficient?

Well whatever they are expecting, Eddie Howe has given a massive clue to his intentions after stating this week:

“There is certainly no massive rebuilding job that needs doing,

“I can assure everyone that we are working hard to get things done, but you can`t rush these things and I am sure we will have the squad in place that we want by kick-off.”

Well let’s bloody well hope so!
