It looks like a quiet Sunday today regarding speculation of transfers in or out of Burnley FC.
Darren Ferguson, the new manager at Preston North End is thought to be keeping an eye out for developments surrounding Robbie Blake. It would appear he might be keen to bring the Burnley icon to Deepdale either on loan or via a possible ‘cut price’ permanent deal.
Blake has struggled to get a starting place recently and has only made a few cameo appearances in the last few games coming on late from the bench.
He is now 33 and is understood to want his contract renewed. Brian Laws will have some tough decsions to make with ten of his regular squad out of contract in the summer including Robbie Blake.
Most Clarets fans will be sorry to see Blake leave the club for the second time and not many would be able to stomach the thought of him playing for local rivals, Preston so let’s hope we can retain his services for at least one more season.
Vital Burnley were the first Clarets website to report a renewed interest in Sheffield Wednesday striker Marcus Tudgay this week and this weekend they are further links. Owen Coyle was after the striker in the summer but Brian Laws who was then Wednesday manager and the Owls board were angered by the approach we made with the player about to sign a new contract with the Owls. They descibed the move as unsettling and the whole affair caused friction between the two clubs.
In the end, Tudgay opted to stay with Wednesday and signed a new contract. Sheffield Wednesday though have struggled for most of the season and they decided to sack Laws last month with the club in the relegation zone.
New manager, Alan Irvine though appears to be turning things round with the Hillsborough club having won their last three games and now steadily climbing up the table. They are now fifth from bottom and on a good run.
Tudgay himself was finding it difficult to score this season but now seems to have found his touch again scoring a brace in yesterday’s 2-1 win at home against Peterborough.
If his former boss is now interested in bringing his former striker to Turf Moor, it will be interesting to see if this time Tudgay takes the opportunity to sign and play in the top flight.
