According to the Daily Record, Scottish Champions Celtic are understood to be lining up a move for Clarets striker Jay Rodriguez in the summer.

Celtic gaffer, Neil Lennon is thought to be impressed by the local born talent and is keeping a close eye on his progress.

The paper then goes on to suggest that Burnley could be prepared to let him go for as little as £3 million which for an England Under 21 international would certainly disappoint many Burnley fans.

Southampton reportedly bid £6 million for the player only last summer, and the newly promoted Championship runners-up could be back in for him again when the transfer window opens. Other Premier League clubs have also been linked with the striker. Owen Coyle was reportedly interested in him earlier this month although if true his chances of success could revolve around Bolton avoiding relegation from the top flight. David Moyes was also thought to be considering bringing the striker to Goodison Park.

Despite all the rumours and there are bound to be more in the weeks ahead, Rodriguez is thought to be happy at Burnley but Eddie Howe is under no illusion that with money tight, the club could find it difficult to hold onto him.

Speaking to the local press this week, Eddie Howe said:

“I think it`s going to be our biggest battle to try to keep the squad together.

“What we`d love to do is add players the other way and not lose anybody.

“Realistically we know that`s going to be quite difficult.

“We need to try to limit who we lose.

“But we`ll have to wait and see.

“A lot of that will be out of our hands really, and it will be a case of making sure we sign the right players to compliment what we have going forward.”
