Clarets fans are just getting used to being without Charlie Austin and are trying to convince themselves that he is no great loss especially with Danny Ings in such sparkling form ably supported by Sam Vokes.

The former Bournemouth striker scored a brace in our last game against Birmingham at Turf Moor on Tuesday night to notch up his seventh goal of the season from nine games and he is clealy on fire. Sadly though such form attracts the attention of other clubs and today’s rumours suggest the vultures are already circling ready to pounce when the next transfer window opens in January.

The Daily Star today suggests Burnley are already fighting off interest from Premier League clubs, Aston Villa, Newcastle and Sunderland. The new boys of the top flight, Crystal Palace are also thought to be monitoring the 21-year-old striker.

Burnley are still understood to be interested in signing another striker to replace Austin after his move to QPR in the summer but at the moment only emergency loans up to a maximum of 93 days would be an option until the January window opens. Should we also lose Ings, the priority to find another striker or two would intensify and it could be too much for fans to bear losing Ings as well without an high-profile replacement.

The Clarets according to the media report will attempt to scare off potential suitors by asking for at least £7m for the player. We all know though that with the club strapped for cash and in debt to the tune of £8 million that there will be a price they would accept no matter how much it might scupper our promotion chances. Burnley are currently riding high in the Championship in fourth spot having made their best start in twelve years and to also lose Ings in January would be a bitter blow indeed. The squad is already considered to be lacking in numbers especially in the striking department.

Ings who cost just £1m from Bournemouth in 2011 currently has two years remaining on his contract so unlike Austin he would at least command a higher price.
