19 year old St Mirren midfielder, Kenny Mclean would appear to be one of Eddie Howe’s targets in the January window if reports in the Scottish media are true.

Mclean already has a Scotland Under 21 cap after making his debut in March this year.

He moved out on loan from St. Mirren to Arbroath in the January 2010 transfer window making a total of 20 league appearances during the second half of the 2009-10 season.

Since that time, he has now become established in Saints first team and is fast becoming hot property although it would appear that Burnley have become the first club to be rumoured to be linked with the player.

Burnley are understood to be watching him in today’s game against Hearts.

McClean is under contract until the summer of 2014 so it might take a sizeable fee to lure him away to Turf Moor. There is no doubt though that St Mirren manager,Danny McLean holds his namesake in high regard. He has done nothing but praise his young talent since McLean scored a goal in their win against St Johnstone a few days ago.

Once again Clarets fans might begin to wonder why the transfer gossip only ever seems to link the Clarets with a move for young players with potential. The general consensus amongst fans appears to be that we need experience but that would appear to go against Eddie Howe’s philosophy of being suspicious of any player over the age of 30 and the Board’s apparant unwillingness to pay for the quality of players we quite clearly need to push this squad from probable midtable certainties to strong promotion candidates.
