21 year old midfielder,Jacob Mellis is currently training with Burnley with a view to a permanent move according to media reports.

Mellis was recently sacked by Chelsea, for a bizarre incident in which he set off a smoke grenade at the club’s Cobham training ground. The prank caused a full-scale evacuation of the training ground.

It may have been a joke to him but he wasn’t laughing when Chelsea gave him the boot and terminated his contract!

The former England Under 19 international played for Burnley reserves against Morecambe last week and has continued to train with the club.

The Nottingham-born player started his football career as a trainee with Sheffield United, before joining Chelsea for £1m in June 2007

Mellis made just one appearance for Chelsea, coming on as a last minute substitute in the Champions League clash against Zilina in November 2010.

He has also had two spells out on loan during the time he was on the books at Stamford Bridge. He joined Southampton on a six month loan in August 2009 before signing for Barnsley on loan during the January 2011 transfer window. He left Oakwell to return to Stamford Bridge in May 2011 making 15 appearances for the Tykes and scoring two goals.
