Chris McCann hobbled off the pitch with a twisted knee in the 28th minute of the game agaainst Sunderland on Saturday following a strong challenge by Michael Turner.

The midfielder faced a scan today to reveal the extent of the damage to his twisted knee ligaments and it was not good news.He could now be out for three months with medial ligament damage.

Burnley face Barnsley in a Carling Cup match at Oakwell this Tuesday night in a game where Owen Coyle is expected to give some of his fringe players a chance to shine. One such player is Kevin McDonald and the Scottish midfielder could be set for an extended run in the team whilst McCann recovers.

Joey Gudjonsson though was the player who replaced McCann on Saturday with Kevin McDonald sitting firmly rooted to the bench all afternoon.
