Recent media speculation suggested that Eddie Howe was keen to bring 18 year old Manchester United midfielder,Paul Pogba to Turf Moor on loan.

If he had such hopes, they have been dashed tonight following a statement from Sir Alex Ferguson himself refusing to release the player this season.

Sir Alex has been quoted in the Daily Mirror saying:

‘It’s more difficult to loan a boy of 18 who’s come from France.

‘We prefer to keep him with us until we find he’s mature enough to possibly go on loan.

‘Maybe next year that could be an option, but we’re definitely expecting him this season to stay with Manchester United.’

So then another one would appear to have bitten the dust!

The player is certainly catching the eye though and has already represented France at U16, U17, U18 and U19 level.

Pogba however has yet to make his first team debut for the Red Devils. He is close though to first team action and could make the breakthrough this season. It is possible he could be selected as early as United’s Carling Cup game against Leeds United at Elland Road on Tuesday night this week. Either way, he looks like he will be remaining at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future!
