The Miracle Mending of McCann

Chris McCann picked up an horrendous injury against Sunderland at Turf Moor back in September.

Scans at first revealed he had torn his medial ligament before it was realised his cruciate was also damaged.

Clarets fans were led to beleive McCann would be out of action for about 3 months although the extent of the damage would normally suggest a player could be sidelined for a season.

Many Clarets fans feel McCann has been sorely missed in midfield and his loss effectively meant that Coyle had to change his thinking with Andre Bikey being converted to a midfield player.

The extent of McCann’s injuries under normal circumstances would have required surgery but the good news is that he is making a rapid recovery without having to suffer the knife!

The recovery has been dubbed a ‘miracle’ by McCann himself and the 22 year old is now targeting a visit to Old Trafford for his return. The Clarets play Manchester United on Saturday 16th January 2010

McCann speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph recently said:

‘Things are going really well – better than expected given that I thought I was gone for the whole season. It basically healed itself. The doctors said it was a miracle.I don’t want to get my hopes up too early but the recovery is going to plan and I have a firm goal in mind … our game away to Manchester United’

McCann is already back in light training but Owen Coyle will be careful not to rush his comeback until he has definitely fully recovered.

Coyle recently told the Official Site:

‘He’s training well and the sooner we get him back the better. We want him back and playing because I believe he’s a big, big part of this football club. It’s great to touch that ball and get that feeling it’s all coming back but it’s not going to be today or tomorrow. It’s going to take a number of weeks for him to start picking up and then joining with the group. That’s a wee bit way away yet but it’s great that he’s making that progress. I am not always one for saying somebody will be back January 10th or whatever because I don’t want to put a time frame on it.All we are trying to say is he’s moving along nicely and the sooner we get him back the better.’

This all sounds quite promising but what do you think about this situation? How much do you think we have missed McCann and do you think a fully fit Chris would walk straight back into the first team no matter how well the midfield was doing at the time?
