Some Clarets fans have always been wary of former Blackburn Rovers players joining the club but the history tends to support the fact that they need not worry!

I am old enough to remember what a great asset Keith Newton was for our club back in the 70s despite his original connections to that lot down the road! I am sure our younger posters could also recall more recent players for both clubs.

Keith Treacy could become an hero overnight though after dissing his former club Blackburn over the weekend. He might though be an hero already after scoring a goal on his debut against Watford at home on Saturday!

He is probably relatively unique now having played for all three rival clubs in Lancashire at our sort of level having been on the books at Ewood Park, Deepdale and now Turf Moor.

I am still waiting for our posters to recall any other player that has played for all three clubs over the years certainly in living memory so come on get your thinking caps on and post your answers below this article.

So what did Treacy say about his former club, Rovers?

First a bit of history. Treacy was at Ewood Park between 2006 and 2010 but he was shown the door in January 2010 and it would appear he left with a bitter taste in his mouth.

‘I never had a chance at Blackburn, he said

‘ The managers changed so quickly I never got my foot in the door’

In the end he made just 12 appearances for Rovers over that four year spell spending a lot of that time out on loan to first Stockport County and then Sheffield United.

He signed a two-and-a-half year contract with an option of a further year with Preston North End in February 2010.

Speaking about his move to Turf Moor though, the 22 year old Republic of Ireland international winger said:

‘I want to get Burnley back in the Premier League, play against Blackburn Rovers and ram it back down their throats’

‘I have a bit of vengeance in mind for Blackburn. I am at the right club for it anyway!’

Well if that doesn’t endear all Clarets fans to our new winger, then nothing will!! Bring it on!!
