We have some little snippets of news concerning the Clarets that you may have missed during the week including a mission statement from new Burnley director, John B and some grim news regarding the Burnley Community Sports Trust.
New Board Changes Confirmed…John B Talks!
It was confirmed this week following a Board Meeting on Monday night that we now have a new director at the club.
Nelson-born businessman John Banaszkiewicz replaced four other long-serving directors and you can read the background to this in our article published on our front page this week entitled All A Board!-Changes at Director Level
Banaszkiewicz (known to all as John B) made his first statement this week following his appointment to the Board indicating that he wanted to make the club more globally known. He told the Lancashire Telegraph:
“I feel we have to make the club a little bit more globally well known. I would like to bring to the club a bit of my business expertise, acumen and contacts and hopefully build a very strong future.”
“I have invested in the club and I hope to invest in the club in the future. One of my early objectives is to get Gawthorpe and the Academy up to scratch,” he said.
“In the 1970s Burnley had a huge pipeline of talent coming through the system and I want to replicate that so that everyone knows who we are. Maybe we can`t afford a £35million player, but we can find another Jay Rodriguez in the next street!”
“You hear about other clubs and how big they are, but Burnley is a club with a huge history and a fantastic loyal fan base and I think it’s all about injecting some new life and new ideas into the club. That was the main factor.”
Contract Extensions Underway
Brian Laws revealed this week that contract negotiations were underway for three of his players. He however only mentioned Jay Rodriguez so the other two for the moment remain a mystery. Burnley FC community scheme set to close
The club announced this week that the Burnley Community Sports Trust had entered a 30-day period of consultation with its entire workforce of more than 30 staff. Turf Moor officials said the withdrawal of Government funding from the Local Enterprise Growth Initiative scheme in March had made it difficult for the trust to continue
The Trust operates Turf Moor Leisure Centre, Turf Moor Enterprise Haven and the Community Coaching Team.
This move could mean the end for the leisure centre which is located opposite the James Hargreaves Stand and has 400 members. The Enterprise Haven which provides office space for new businesses trying to get off the ground could also be a casualty.
Football coaches who carry out ‘vital` work with local schools, community groups and youth clubs could also be looking for a new job as the Government cuts bite hard.
McDonald Back at The Iron
Kevin McDonald has returned to Scunthorpe United this week to complete his one-month loan spell.
The 21 year old midfielder suffered a back injury in his first training session with The Iron on 14 October and was sent back to Turf Moor for treatment.
Scunthorpe gaffer Ian Baraclough said of his return:
‘He’s fit, trained with us in a tough session and comes into the reckoning [for Saturday’s game at Hull City].
‘He’s got 12 days left of the loan so it incorporates three games.’
Macdonald Shines in Thumping 4-1 Reserves Win
The Clarets second-string went on the rampage this week at Turf Moor beating Wrexham 4-1to consolidate their position as totesport.com Central League West league leaders whilst keeping their unbeaten run going.
In the terrible wet & windy conditions of Tuesday night, Dominic Knowles opened the scoring after just 90 seconds
In form, Alex Macdonald made it 2-0 from the spot after thumping home his penalty for his fifth goal of the season and fourth in three games.
Chris Anderson put the Clarets further ahead after Wrexham failed to cope with a corner from the left. He shot through a crowded defence to demoralise Wrexham on the stroke of half-time. Burnley went into the break 3-0 up. Mathias Pogba pulled one back for Wrexham in the second-half but the on-fire MacDonald was having the game of his life having umpteen chances to score. He had been denied by the keeper, defensive blocks and a few miskicks but now he would get his well-deserved brace. David Edgar set him up with a good run before laying-off to MacDonald who finished well.
