Burnley’s Championship season continued with a win at Turf Moor against Bolton on Saturday.

Gray did what he was brought to Burnley to do, however his game is about more than goals alone, with his second half double enough to give the Clarets a two-nil win and see the football resume with a victory.

Heaton was called into action first of all with him turning over a Danns effort with the dangerous Gray getting in beyond Dervite but his effort went wide.

The loss of Bolton’s Spearing to injury then brought about chances for both sides.

Firstly Heaton dealt punched away a Feeney volley with Dervite then following up with a header that was also saved by the Burnley ‘keeper with Arfield then firing an effort wide before setting up Vokes with his effort cleared off the line by Wheater.

With the hour approaching Gray (56) broke the deadlock beating Amos in the Bolton goal after the ‘keeper had made two fine saves before this, firstly saving the initial Gray effort with Arfield following up to also be denied by Amos but the striker was on hand to score at the third attempt.

Darikwa crucially cleared a Wheater header off the line to keep Burnley ahead as Bolton threatened an equaliser before Gray (68), moments later, made that all the more crucial when at the midway point of the second half the former Brentford striker made it two from an Arfield pass.

A hat-trick would have come Gray’s way but for another Amos save but his brace was enough to move Burnley up to fifth in the table now, and nicely placed, whereas the defeat for the Clarets’ visitors sees them rock bottom!
