The club have just announced that Martin Paterson is set for another spell on the sidelines after suffering a further thigh injury.

Scans today revealed that the luckless Pato has picked up a similar injury to the one that kept him sidelined for most of last season which must be a bitter, bitter blow for the unfortunate striker.

Paterson felt the problem return in the first half of our opening game of the season at home to Watford on Saturday and asked to be substituted at half time.

Eddie Howe talking about the injury said:

‘Martin has re-injured his thigh and will be out for a period of time

‘We don’t know how long that will be but he will receive the best care’

This has happened at the worst possible time with the Clarets already light on striker options. Jay Rodriguez, providing he remains at the club and Charlie Austin are now the only experienced strikers in the squad although we do also have Wes Fletcher and Alex MacDonald waiting in the wings.

Even before this grim news, Howe was reportedly seeking a new striker and now it would appear he needs at least two! Howe also confirmed tonight he would now step up his search to find the reinforcements he now needs up front.

Not the best time to be doing this with the season already underway and the summer transfer window about to close at the end of this month.
