Burnley Football Club today confirmed that Nathaniel Chalobah has returned to parent club Chelsea following completion of his loan deal.

This had been widely predicted in the media following comments from Sean Dyche last month that the midfielder had been struggling to impress in the top flight following previous loans at Championship level.

The England U21 midfielder made just four substitute appearances for the Clarets after joining the club at the end of August. There was some talk when he arrived in the summer that the loan deal might have developed into a season-long loan in January but clearly that is no longer going to happen.

Sean Dyche said today:

“Nathaniel will go back to Chelsea and we thank him for his efforts in his time with us.

“We hope he has developed here, albeit not on the pitch as much as he would have liked. He has, however, been an active part of the group and has been a credit to himself.

‘We wish Nathaniel well as he looks to further progress his career.”
