Steven Caldwell was one of three Clarets players along with Alexander and Fletcher recently called up by George Burley for Scotland’s two crucial World Cup 2010 Qualifiers to be played during the International break.

Scotland need back to back victories over Macedonia and Holland in September to stand any hope of making the 2010 World Cup in South Africa next summer

Caldwell though has not played for the Clarets this season after picking up a groin strain in Scotland’s previous qualifier against Norway in Oslo, a week before the Premier League season kicked off.

Owen Coyle, although the decision is taken out of the club’s hands does not believe the Scottish Medical team will pronounce Caldwell fit enough to play.

He told the official site:

‘I would imagine Steve will travel to Scotland but I would be very surprised if he is fit to play. He will go up there and see their medical team, but my thinking is that hopefullya week on Monday he will be ready to resume training’
