Clarke Carlisle was harshly sent-off after picking up a straight red in the game against Millwall at ‘The Den’ on Saturday.

Carlisle on the touchline mis-timed a challenge on Theo Robinson with the referee than having a moment of madness and flashing red at our unfortunate captain with just seven minutes of the game played. It is debatable whether it was even a foul but even if it was, a yellow card would have been more in order.

The sending-off means Clarke Carlisle is now facing a three-match ban.

Burnley though have confirmed they will appeal against the decision even knowing that doing so could mean a four-match ban if they lose.

They will know Carlisle’s fate by the end of the week.

Brian Laws talking about the incident and their intention to appeal said on the Club’s Official Site:

‘We are obviously disappointed and having analysed it we feel it is harsh,

‘Therefore we feel there is an element of doubt and we feel we have to move forward by appealing against a three-match ban,

‘We are aware of the need to be sure about such an appeal, but we feel strongly enough that there is a case to overturn the decision,

‘The referee has taken a look at it and still feels he made the right decision. However we have to hope that the professionals on the panel, see that there was no element of dangerto the opponent and that it was simply mis-timed’
