The 4th round Capital One Cup tie will be an all Claret & Blue affair! Burnley have been drawn at home to Premier League West Ham United in a return to the days of hopefully ‘Capital Punishment’ against the East London club!

In our 2008-9 promotion season, Burnley disposed of a number of London-based clubs including Fulham, Arsenal and Chelsea in this competition (then called the Carling Cup) before narrowly losing out to Tottenham Hotspur in the semi-final over two legs. Just missing out on Wembley spurred the Clarets on in the Championship and the rest they say was history after reaching the play-offs final at Wembley in May 2009 to gain promotion to the top flight for the first time in 33 years! Could history be about to repeat itself with the Clarets already in one of the Championship automatic promotion spots after eight games? There are still plenty of London clubs in the competition too. Arsenal play Chelsea at the Emirates in the pick of the draw whilst both Spurs and Fulham could progress further.

In the last round with Burnley having already beaten York City 4-0 away and Preston 2-0 at home, Nottingham Forest were the visitors to Turf Moor. In a hard-fought game on Tuesday night it was the Clarets who progressed to the next round coming from a goal down to win 2-1 thanks to a Danny Ings brace.

The Hammers beat Cardiff City 3-2 at Upton Park on Tuesday night and entering the competition at the second round stage previously beat Cheltenham 2-1 also at home. Sam Allardyce’s men have had an indifferent start to their Premier League campaign this season. After five games they have picked up just five points and are currently in 15th spot only one point clear of the drop zone. They will certainly not be relishing a visit to Turf Moor with the Clarets in such stunning form and riding high in the Championship.

The tie will be played week commencing October 28 and full ticket details will follow in the coming days.

The full draw for the last sixteen was as follows:

Tottenham Hotspur v Hull City

Newcastle United v Manchester City

Burnley v West Ham United

Arsenal v Chelsea

Birmingham City v Stoke City

Manchester United v Norwich City

Sunderland v Southampton

Leicester City v Fulham
