22 year old Derry City left back, Daniel Lafferty has joined Burnley today for an undisclosed fee after recently having a successful trial with the club and impressing in a behind-closed-doors match at Wolves last week . It is thought he may have signed for about £150,000. He has penned a two-and-a half year deal subject to international clearance.

The exciting prospect is already a Republic of Ireland Under 21 intenational and looks set for a bright future. Burnley would appear to have beaten Watford, Brighton and Derby County to his signature.

“We had a look at him for a week in training and he impressed us,” said Eddie Howe.

“It’s the closed-season in Ireland so he’s a bit behind in fitness work so we have a bit of work to do to get him right up to speed and it’s a big jump for him from the level that he’s played at,” added Howe on the Official Burnley website.

“He’s had a good grounding at Celtic. You can see he’s had a good education. He’s got a lovely left foot and he loves to get forward.

“He’s a really good footballer and he fit very much into our philosophy. He’s one for the future but is also in our thoughts for now.”

Lafferty spent five years at Celtic joining the club in 2006 after coming through Oxford United`s youth system; the period also included a loan spell at Ayr United. He signed for his hometown club, Derry City in 2010.
