Wade Elliott is waiting to see if he will face a FA charge and ban following a clash with Blackburn’s French defender,Pascal Chimbonda on Sunday in the local derby against Blackburn. The incident happened shortly after Robbie Blake scored in the 5th minute.

Elliott is alleged to have planted his foot into the face of Chimbonda; an incident which went unnoticed by the referee and the other officials.

According to The Sun, St Helens referee, Chris Foy will now be asked to look again at the incident and decide if it should have been a red card. A spokesman for the FA also last night confirmed Elliott was under investigation for the alleged offence.

A decision could be made as early as later today so both Elliott and all Clarets fans are now sweating waiting for the verdict.

Nobody seems to have made an issue of this other than Rovers gaffer, Sam Allardyce. Big Sam said after the match

‘There was one incident I thought was nasty with Wade Elliott on Chimbonda. When you see it again you’ll see what I mean.’

I don’t recall seeing this on Sky and thinking Elliott could be in trouble here so let’s hope the referee and FA take the same view. With McCann already out in midfield for the next couple of months or so and Guerrero struggling with a hamstring injury, this would be the worse possible time for a ban although it should at least confirm a starting eleven place for Chris Eagles, one of the few players that impressed in the 3-2 defeat at Ewood Park.
