John Mullin Returns in Youth Coaching Role

John Mullin has joined the Clarets’ Centre of Excellence in a part-time capacity.

The 34-year-old former Clarets midfielder, is now a qualified level 3 coach and he will now work with John Francis in developing our under-15 squad.

He will continue to play down the road for his current club, Accrington Stanley.

As a player, Mullin had three spells with the Clarets. He started his professional career with the club in 1992 before moving to Sunderland three years later. During the four years on the Black Cats books, he had two loan spells at Preston and then Burnley in 1998. Mullin then signed a permanent deal with the Clarets between 1999-2001 before moving to Rotherham. Mullin was released by Rotherham at the end of the 2005/06 season and rejoined his former manager at Rotherham, Ronnie Moore who was now at Tranmere Rovers signing a two-year deal.

After being released by Tranmere at the end of the 2007-08 season, Mullin was signed by Accrington Stanley on a one year contract.

Centre of Excellence Manager, Vince Overson commenting about the appointment said:

‘We are delighted to have John on board again. He’s recognised as a local lad with a wealth of football experience and he has the temperament and intelligence to be a good role for the young lads. As a former player he also knows about the ethos of the club with the added knowledge of someone who came through the ranks of where potential can take you.’

Burnley’s Director of Youth,Martin Dobson, was instrumental in bringing John back to Turf Moor as he explains himself:

‘I identified John several months ago and thanks to the co-operation of John Coleman at Accrington have been able to add him to the quality coaches we have got who have played at a professional level and who have seen it and done it. They instinctively know how to improve players and it’s also good for them if they have ambitions to coach and manage at a higher level in the future.’
