Everton Not Chelsea For Keane

Over the weekend it was being reported that Everton were now in pole position to snap up centre half Michael Keane over the summer and not Chelsea.

To be honest across the January transfer window there weren’t many sides not linked with Keane as the speculation was covered pretty regularly, but with no move happening and links to the likes of Leicester City dying down, it seems it’s time for the redtops to recycle that speculation again as we move towards the end of the season and the summer.

The Sun were one of many on Sunday to regurgitate the story and the twist chosen this time was Everton were better placed than Chelsea now, and there was talk of a £28million offer.

With interest from Everton known about, they stated that the 24 year old continued to be Ronald Koeman’s No 1 target for the summer and they claim Everton are ‘confident’ that they have a deal in the bag.

With deals rejected over the January window, it seems the Sun believe Everton to be so confident of a deal being in ‘the bag’ based on the fact the transfer window is closed and therefore there is no deal in place elsewhere.

I’m not sure that stands up to scrutiny and I’m not sure the redtop expect anybody to believe the baseless claims – but that’s transfer speculation for you in the media isn’t it.

It must never be forgotten that the prime purpose of newspapers is to sell papers. Everything else, including the truth, is secondary.
