Ings On Emotional Win

Striker Danny Ings has reflected on an emotional win at Hull City today that sees Burnley relegated with two games to go.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game where Ings gave us the victory, he admitted it had been a very emotional day as everybody had been focused on getting the win in the hope it gave us the chance for survival and in the end, the three points counted for nothing as results elsewhere went against us.

Making matters worse for Ings on a personal level, the goal meant he ends the season as the first person since 1975-76 to reach double figures for the club in the top flight.

‘I think we put the situation we were in today to one side and played with freedom and created a lot of chances as well as defending really well. It`s been a little while since I have scored but I have been in those sort of positions and it`s been extremely tough which is understandable in the Premier League. Chances are hard to come by and it is important that you take them. It was important that I did score but the shine is taken off it by us going down.’

Ings goes on to say that for him it’s about the ‘team’ on days like this, because we always win or lose together, and he couldn’t have been prouder of the efforts of his colleagues in the game – well all season really as heads have never really dropped.

‘We`ve performed well all season, even when we haven`t managed to pick up results and the lads can come off the pitch today with their heads held high knowing we gave it our all.’

With his own future in question given his contract situation and the speculation surrounding him, he went on to say.

‘Everyone who knows me personally knows how much this club means to me. Obviously with the contract situation, it`s understandable that people might have been turning their nose up a little bit. But I`ve got my project in the town, and Burnley will have a massive part of my heart and I love this football club.’

He ends the interview by praising the fans for their support all season long.

‘The fans have stood by us all season and with us being the underdogs in most games we`ve needed that 12th man and they`ve been just that. They`ve been fantastic home and away and I can`t thank them enough.’
