This evening Burnley have confirmed that Kevin Long has signed a new long term deal at the club.

The Republic of Ireland defender joined the club from Cork City back in January 2010, and his existing deal had only 12 months left to run.

He is our longest serving player though and earlier today he put pen to paper on a new three year contract.

Speaking to the Official Site after penning his new deal, Long explained.

‘I am delighted. It`s been going on for quite a while now so it`s nice to get it signed and look forward to the next three years. It caps what`s been a fabulous few months for me. Coming into the team at the end of last season was great and them to make my international debut for Ireland over the summer was a dream.’

Long went on to add.

‘Here at Burnley, we`ve secured another season in the Premier League, so this is a club going in the right direction and it`s a pleasure to be a part of that. I`ve been here a long time and probably haven`t played as much as I`d have liked, so hopefully in the next three years I can play a lot more and go from strength to strength.’

The 27 year old has only made 27 starting appearances for us, with a further four from the substitutes bench, but during his time with us he has taken in loan spells with Accrington Stanley, Rochdale, Portsmouth, Barnsley and MK Dons to take him past the 100 appearance mark.
